Jazz Band
The Lafayette Jefferson Jazz Band is the advanced jazz ensemble at the high school. It uses standard jazz band instrumentation of 5 saxophones, 4-5 trumpets, 4-5 trombones, piano, bass, drums, and guitar. This group consists of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and admission is by audition / interview only. The Jazz Band meets as a class during the school day. Annual performances include the Fall Gala, Instrumental Christmas Concert, Purdue Jazz Festival, Mid-winter Dance, Ebony & Ivory Ball, Mardi Gras Concert, Spring Concert with the Freshman Band, and Music in May. Other performances have included: Senior Citizen Fair, Ball State Jazz Festival, University of Indianapolis Jazz Festival, Intersections Indy Jazz Festival, Labor Day Family Picnic, various elementary school field trips, and performances at Purdue University functions. |

When the marching season is over in late fall, those members of the drum line who wish to continue with their music may join the Percussion Ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Jeff Parthun and Lorin Lemme.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the premier wind band at Jefferson High School. This group has received many honors including participating in the ISSMA State Finals in 1985, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2001,2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. The Jefferson Wind Ensemble was selected to be the Honor Band at University festivals including Indiana State and Purdue University. Recent honors include being selected to perform at the Indiana Music Educators State Convention in January of 2003. Guest Conductor on the program was Director of Bands at the University of Michigan, Michael Haithcock. This group is made up of primarily seniors and juniors who study advanced musical compositions from a variety of composers. Only the most serious of wind and percussion students are accepted into this ensemble, and all must be studying privately. Sectionals occur during the Student Resource Time. The band performs at the Fall Gala, Holiday Shows, Sixth Grade and Wind Ensemble Festival, Fifth Grade Recruitment Concert, ISSMA District and State Contests, Hall of Fame Ceremony and Music In May. Members of the Wind Ensemble also serve as the wind section for the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra.

The Jefferson Marching Band is a competitive marching unit from Lafayette, Indiana. We compete in Class A at all ISSMA events. The 2006-07 Marching Band is comprised of 52 woodwinds, 49 brass, 31 percussion, 25 color guard and 3 Drum Majors for a total of 160 members on the field.
2006 MISSION STATEMENT
The 2006 JHS marching band will be a UNIT of musicians, performers, and directors who will achieve a sense of self-confidence and pride as a result of striving unvaryingly to deliver the finest possible performance in any undertaking. This process will be carried out in the most mature and professional manner and will consist of persistently surpassing the previous day through efficient productive rehearsals while continually aspiring to obtain the most from each rehearsal.

Color Guard

Jeff High School's Performance Ensemble is composed of the Color Guard that performs with the Marching Band during the fall marching season and then in the Winter Guard arena. The ensemble participates in IHSCGA Class A and WGI Scholastic A.
